Riverside Drive and Limit Street Closures Expected to Begin September 23

A Battle Creek milling and paving project has started along portions of Riverside Drive and Limit Street, and the city says the phase that brings temporary road closures is expected to begin around Wednesday, September 23.

The work affects Riverside Drive between East Burnham Street and East Columbia Avenue, and Limit Street between West Goodale Avenue and Parkway Drive. The first phase began September 14 with sidewalk-ramp replacement. The city says no road closures are expected during that first phase, but drivers and nearby residents should still expect crews and equipment in the area.

What changes when paving begins

The second phase includes milling and repaving. That is when temporary closures are anticipated. The city's current schedule calls for that phase to begin around September 23 and wrap up by Friday, November 13, with the temporary closures ending by then as well. Work hours are generally planned for 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For Riverside Drive, the city recommends northbound traffic use East Columbia Avenue, Capital Avenue SW and East Burnham Street before returning to Riverside. Southbound traffic is advised to use East Burnham Street, Capital Avenue SW and East Columbia Avenue. For Limit Street, the recommended northbound detour uses Parkway Drive, Hubbard Street and West Goodale Avenue, while southbound traffic uses West Goodale Avenue, Hubbard Street and Parkway Drive.

Plan for changing conditions

Construction schedules can shift with weather, contractor operations and field conditions. The dates in the city's announcement are estimates, so drivers should allow extra time, follow signs at the work zone and check for the latest update before a routine trip through either corridor. The final phase, which includes pavement markings and turf restoration, is planned for spring 2027.
