Emily’s interest in medicine and psychology sparked her decision to become a physician assistant. She finds the variety and complexity offered by internal medicine very challenging and rewarding. In this role, Emily looks forward to working collaboratively as part of a team to promote the health and personal well-being of patients and families. In her spare time, Emily enjoys spending time with friends and family, cycling and reading true crime novels. I believe an integrative and holistic approach to patient care is essential. In medical school, Dr White was immediately drawn to surgery, but also wanted to have the opportunity to build relationships with his patients. The field of ENT allows him the ability to do both. He loves what he does. The ability to help people on a daily basis, both in the office and in the operating room, is very fulfilling. Dr White is thankful for the many mentors that have guided him during the course of his career, but his wife and parents have had the deepest and most meaningful impact on his life. He is intent on serving as a mentor for other medical students and residents, as well. His participation in numerous medical mission trips is another way he can give back.

His biggest influence has been God and his mother - who has been a great example of faith, joy, hard work and unconditional love. Dr Sonnabend has always appreciated the patient-doctor relationship. She chose endocrinology so she could have an opportunity to build long-standing relationships with patients and treat their chronic conditions. She enjoys all aspects of endocrinology and has a special interest in treating diabetes. One of her favorite aspects of helping patients is getting to know them and learning about their unique stories. Her biggest influences in life have been her parents, both of whom are physicians. They have served as key examples, showing her the importance of helping others and making a difference. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter, family and friends. She also enjoys cooking and traveling.

Dr Nair had a deep interest in the science of oncology and tumorigenesis since the early years of his medical training. He spent the formative years of his medical education in clinical oncology and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Center, which played a key role in defining his career path. As a medical oncologist, Dr Nair works with patients who have cancer or blood disorders. He has a special interest in helping patients with lung cancer, breast cancer, stomach and intestinal cancers, and prostate, bladder or kidney cancers. He also treats patients with blood disorders such as blood clotting problems and issues with blood counts. The rapid testing and healing advances within the field of cancer care excite Dr Nair the most.

Jessica chose to pursue a career in healthcare because of her strong desire to help people. She found becoming a nurse practitioner to be a very rewarding career path, especially when collaborating with her patients to help them achieve better health. The biggest influence in her life is her husband and three daughters. They bring her joy and happiness, which she carries into work every day. She loves getting to know her patients outside of their medical condition and learning what makes them happy and joyful. Growing up and being inspired by his mom working in a healthcare setting, Joel chose to become a physician assistant (PA) in order to become a member of a team that promotes good health and wellness to a variety of patients in a variety of different settings. He believes surgery in particular offers the opportunity to take a problem and see it through to its resolution. In his free time, Joel enjoys spending time with family, reading and also enjoys sports. I think it is very important to understand exactly what brought the patient in to be seen. I like to fully characterize the patient’s concerns and allowing that to guide further evaluation/treatment.

Jordan is excited to work with diverse patients and feels each day is an opportunity to learn something new. She is passionate about improving the lives of her patients by providing the necessary guidance and tools to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Jordan finds it rewarding to provide education to her patients and develop a plan of care that aligns with patient goals. In her free time, Jordan enjoys being active through exercise and walking her dog. She also enjoys reading and traveling. Julia started her career in Rheumatology nearly 11 years ago with the hope to help numerous patients with chronic, painful conditions live a more functional life. Julia has a passion for Osteoporosis as it is significantly underdiagnosed and undertreated throughout the country; she enjoys coming to work and being an advocate for her patient’s needs. In her free time, Julia is the President of the Society of Physician Associates in Rheumatology (SPAR) where they advocate for PA advancement and improvement of health of patients with rheumatologic conditions.

Julie first became interested in neurology in her undergraduate courses at the University of Michigan. Majoring in movement science, she focused on motor control, including courses focused on disorders of voluntary movement, and understanding those mechanisms in order to establish treatment. She then went on to obtain a national registration as an EEG Technologist, and worked for years in epilepsy, continuing to grow her passion for neurology before attending school to become a physician assistant. Julie is excited to come to work each day, because neurology is such a vast and exciting field, and each patient and case is different and rewarding in its own way.

Being a physician assistant is a second career for Karen—she went back to school when she was 48 years old! Why did she start over? Blessed with great mentors in both her career and at home, Karen was taught to always strive to be a better person and to never give up. She wanted a career where she could make a difference in someone's life. Her special interests are Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy. Karen facilitates the Parkinson’s disease support group in Kalamazoo and helps lead the multiple sclerosis support group. She also helps organize the annual walk-a-thon for Parkinson’s disease and is a member of the Michigan Parkinson Foundation professional advisory board.
