Beckley Road Signals Shift to All-Way Stops October 31st
Battle Creek traffic work affects Riverside Drive and Mall Drive intersections

Battle Creek Public Works scheduled traffic-cabinet replacement work at two Beckley Road intersections for Saturday, October 31st, 2026.
The work began by 6 a.m. and was expected to finish by early afternoon, but the city had not posted a completion confirmation when this update was prepared.
During the project, traffic signals were powered down and each affected intersection operated as a temporary all-way stop.
Crews divided the work into two phases so both intersections would not be affected at the same time.
Phase one covered Beckley Road and Riverside Drive.
Phase two covered Beckley Road and Mall Drive at the entrance to Lakeview Square Mall.
No complete road closures were expected during the cabinet replacement.
Drivers should still slow down, watch for workers and equipment, and obey temporary stop signs or other traffic-control directions.
Michigan State Police explains that a dark or malfunctioning signal without another control device should be treated as a four-way stop.
If two vehicles arrive at the same time, the driver on the left generally yields to the vehicle on the right.
Motorists should not assume the signals have returned to normal until they see the lights operating and temporary controls removed.
Anyone traveling through the commercial Beckley Road corridor should allow extra time while crews remain present.
The city expected the temporary stops to lift and normal signal operations to resume by early afternoon on October 31st.
That timing was an estimate and could change if field conditions delayed the work.
Residents can check the official Battle Creek traffic alert for the city’s latest posted information.
