Thousands Fill Bailey Park for Police Trunk or Treat

Thousands of families, children and teenagers filled Bailey Park for the Battle Creek Police Department’s annual Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 30th, 2026.

Police officers, firefighters, local businesses and community groups handed out candy from decorated vehicles during the free two-hour event.

The celebration marked the department’s 14th annual Trunk or Treat and continued a tradition that police say has lasted more than a decade.

For many families, the appeal goes beyond candy because the gathering creates a controlled place to celebrate and reconnect with neighbors.

Costumes ranged from a baby dressed as a mail carrier to a family group inspired by “The Thing.”

One participating group handed children individual cereal boxes, adding a fitting Battle Creek twist to the usual Halloween treats.

The event also gave young visitors a close look at police cars, fire trucks and other emergency vehicles.

That direct interaction can make public-safety workers feel more familiar and approachable to children.

Battle Creek Police Lt. Ryan Strunk said the Bailey Park setting gives families a place to collect candy without walking through neighborhoods with moving traffic.

Some attendees described the event as an annual tradition and said they return for the costumes, friends and community atmosphere.

One family reported waiting about 30 minutes to make its way through the event, reflecting the size of the turnout.

Bailey Park hosted the gathering near C.O. Brown Stadium at 1350 Capital Avenue NE.

The police department thanked the businesses and community partners that helped make the event possible.

With Halloween falling on Saturday, October 31st, police also reminded drivers to stay alert for trick-or-treaters in residential neighborhoods.

Families were encouraged to travel in groups, carry flashlights, wear reflective clothing after dark and visit homes with outdoor lights on.

The city does not establish official trick-or-treating hours, while the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration offers additional driver and pedestrian safety guidance.

The community recap and event photos are available in the local event report.
